Our friend Mark, the pastor of Chirezi Christian Church, invited us to come watch his cricket match. Once I understood the basic rules, I was able to enjoy the game.  We always have some fun pictures of the kids to share! The flying wonder Neighbor friend "Good morning! How are you?" Visiting schools and their principles or just whoever is there. Funny note- the guy on the left was always wearing a pink shirt when we met him. I'm so popular! This was taken before we left to go sand-boarding (see the Mouers there and back again for more information on sand-boarding).

Before I came, my dad told me that we would be in Zimbabwe in the summer.  It would also be the rainy season, so I thought “Oh, if it is going to be raining a lot then maybe the heat of the summer won’t be so bad.” That would be true if there was rain! Since we’ve been here it has rained one full day and drizzled lightly twice. WE NEED RAIN!!! Despite the heat, every weekday morning at six a.m. most of the village children walk to school, and every weekday afternoon at four-ish they walk back. One day I had the privilege of getting up at five a.m. to go to school with them, only to find out that the paper work for me to go to school wasn’t finished.   Unfortunately, that meant I had to go all the way back home. I got to school at 6:30 (or half-six as Zimbabweans say) and was driven back around 7:15. I have yet to return. We are hoping that we can fulfill a list of documentation that was given to us on Tuesday.     On Wednesday we went with Cephas and J...

“Welcome to Zimbabwe!”

As it is the culture to shake hands in Zimbabwe, I think it would be safe to say that I have shaken over 100 hands. Everywhere I go I’m being offered a hand, buy groceries shake five; check email two; a short walk six. Everyone wants to know your name and “how are you?” (I am fine.) The people in Zimbabwe have more of a social atmosphere and they don’t judge if your shirt matches your shoes, or if you wear any shoes at all. Not like I’m complaining!                                             One evening while my mom was helping one of the kids with math, I was sitting. Well, actually, I was technically helping, too, but that was only like every ten minutes. In the middle of my boredom, I was handed a baby to hold (that’s what I did, at least). The poor kid...

For those of you who don't know where Zimbabwe is...it is NOT located near Ebola One of the best parts of international airports are all the different languages and accents. The Phoenix; Heathrow (near London); Johannesburg, South Africa (yes it is a country!) and Harare (the big city in Zimbabwe) airports all contained an ample supply of British accents.                The first leg of our trip went from The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to the London Heathrow International Airport. The flight was quite uneventful, although I did enjoy watching Alexander and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In addition to these movies, I watched half of two more movies, Epic and Guardians of the Galaxy. If you were wondering, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the best, and Guardians of the Galaxy was definitely the worst (if you can’t tell I really, really, really, did not like it...
